I got my first clip of 2009 the other day. It was an assignment that was a little out of my normal M.O.: Make a portrait of a house. The story was a memoir-style piece about growing up in a section of Philadelphia called The Northeast.
I had a great time using a new piece of equipment that allows me to stitch together images in order to create beautiful panoramics. It worked wonderfully. I used three images to create this photo (I know, it doesn’t look like it.) in order to create an image that is almost 150MB.
The hardest part of the job was waiting for the light, all the while the author’s mom (they’ve been living in the same house for 40 years) kept coming out to offer me spaghetti. I was starving and cold, so it was hard not to take her up on the offer. But the light kept changing so much every 10 mins that I couldn’t leave.
In total I waited for nearly 6 hours for this image. I often tell people that 3/4 of my job is just waiting for something to happen.
