Usually when I’m working for Imbibe Magazine, I’m photographing beer brewers, or artisan cocktails creators, but this time the magazine had me photographing a modern-day anomaly…the soda fountain. The Franklin Fountain is located in the historic Old City section of Philadelphia and you could be forgiven for mistaking the store for a museum or antiques shop. It’s run by two brothers, Ryan and Eric Berley, who’s parents are actually in the antiques business…ahhhhh, that makes sense. They even have a real, re-conditioned, turn-of-the-century soda fountain that’s also a lamp (see right).
As a photographer, it’s a dream job: soda jerks in crisp linens, penny-tile and marble everywhere, a lot of awesome mustaches and the most beautifully colored soda syrups one could ask for. Thanks to Art Director Maggie Gardner for the great design.
And please enjoy the outtakes below.
